Call to Worship
Leader: A love that never ceases, a creativity that designed the universe;
All: A hope that cannot be quenched, a pursuit of reconciliation no matter the cost;
Leader: A peace that surpasses all understanding and that the world cannot give -
All: These are the things that are of God, so then, together, let us worship our God!
*Opening Hymn - Congregation’s Choice
Invitation to Confession
Hymn 577 Lord, Have Mercy (Cantor intones; congregation repeats three times)
Prayer of Confession
Leader: God of grace, together we turn to you in prayer, because it’s you who unites us. You are the one God in whom we believe. You alone empower us for good, and you send us out across the earth in mission and service in the name of Christ.
All: We confess before you and all people: We have often been unworthy servants. We have misused and abused the creation. We have wounded one another by divisions everywhere.
Leader: We have often failed to take decisive action against environmental destruction, poverty, white supremacy, nationalism, sexism, class-ism, homophobia, greed, and violence of every kind. In these things, we have been both victims and perpetrators.
All: We have fallen short as disciples of Jesus Christ, who in his incarnation came to save us by teaching us your gospel and showing us how to love.
Leader: Transform our hearts, God. Let us know your forgiveness, and teach us to restore broken relationships among one another.
(Silent Confession)
Leader: Amen.
Assurance of Forgiveness
Leader: Hear the good news: God is love, and grace, and peace, and compassion, and forgiveness; and through Christ, God fills you with each of these. You are loved. You are accepted. You are renewed and restored.Pastor: So together, once again let’s proclaim the good news:All: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
*Response Hymn 589 Alleluia (sung twice)

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer
Leader: God, we are one with you, because you have made us one with you. You have taught us that if we are open to one another, you dwell in us.
All: Help us to preserve this openness and to fight for it with all our hearts. Help us to realize that there can be no understanding where there is rejection of the other.
Leader: God, it is only through accepting one another wholeheartedly, fully, completely, that we accept you, and we thank you, and we adore you, and we love you with our whole being, because our being is in your being, our spirit is rooted in your spirit.
All: Fill us then with love, and let us be bound together with love wherever we go or with whom we journey, united in this one spirit which makes you present in the world, and makes you witness to the ultimate reality that is love.
Leader: Love has overcome.
All: Love is victorious.
Leader: (calls for prayers of the people. The prayer concludes with the Lord’s Prayer. The following is the format we usually use, but feel free to offer the prayer in whatever format or language you are most comfortable with.)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
