Creation Care Ministry
Springdale Presbyterian is deeply committed to focusing on the importance of creation care and the environment. Here is just part of how we do that:
Worship: Springdale celebrates God's creation throughout the year. A special service near Earth Day allows the congregation to celebrate the wonders of the earth through music, message and adding to the grounds by planting sustainable materials to enhance and support the environment. Springdale hosts an annual outdoor service where the congregation experiences the wonder of God's creation.
Outreach & Advocacy: A men's group at Springdale has adopted a section of Highway 22 close to church to maintain and keep trash free. Annually, a gardening club (The Ramblers) holds a plant sale on the church grounds and is now also holding their monthly meeting at the church. Creation Care hosted an Issues Class, which we opened to the public, to highlight the best ways to plant for encouraging birds and pollinators to flourish in the small, home gardens where we live.

Spiritual Nurture: The large perennial garden in the back of Springdale is highlighted by a sculpture of Praying Hands, reminding all once again of the gift of God's creation. It is placed near the children's playground to bring them closer to understanding of this gift. The children also plant seeds in the spring to encourage not only the insects and bird population to flourish, but also to encourage and further involvement in the environment. In 2024, a white oak tree was planted and dedicated to future generations of Springdale.
Building & Facility: The focus of our plantings revolves around native plants and pollinators as well as sustainability. Our gardens are maintained by the Creation Care Ministry, as well as other church members. Inside our building we strongly encourage all church members to utilize Springdale's ample supply of dinnerware and discourage the use of single-use items. Our thermostats are monitored to provide optimum comfort while reducing our carbon footprint. The parking lot has two EV stations to be utilized by all.
